Billy
White
Ketchikan, Alaska
Billy White is studying to become a nurse.
He’s a first-year
student at the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau.
Billy didn’t arrive at this decision the way most students
do. He made his choice after spending several weeks at Harborview
Medical Center, recovering from a tragic accident that occurred
when he was only 15. He was severely burned in that accident
and doesn’t remember much about his care and transport
by Airlift Northwest from Ketchikan to Seattle. He does remember
the amazing people who cared for him there, including two
nurses in the Harborview burn unit. They not only helped
Billy through the long process of recovery, but they also
became his inspiration to pursue a nursing career of his
own. Billy is a strong and dedicated young man who is grateful
to his family and friends in Ketchikan for helping with his
recovery. With their support, he is working hard to get his
degree, and he has turned an event that could have defeated
him into one that has placed him on a path to help others.
